| Studio 15 is one of seven groups in the Graduate Diploma, Westminster. Run by Sean Griffiths and Kester Rattenbury, we have been exploring some of the tougher urban issues facing designers. Last year's project, in collaboration with the Building Futures Unit at the RlBA, explored what London might be like in 20 years time. It was exhibited at the RIBA and featured on TV and in the Evening Standard. |

As part of the Graduate Diploma in Architecture at the University of Westminster, Studio 15 continues its urban odyssey this year with a series of road trips. As usual, we will be using our adopted vehicle (if you’ll pardon the pun) to explore the intricacies and mythologies of urban life. Trying to find out what makes places tick, what makes them exciting, boring, poetic and prosaic all at the same time |
 |
This year, we are starting right outside our own front door; exploring the Marylebone / Euston Road, London's first by-pass. Working in collaboration with Sir Terry Farrell and Partners, and using his own study of the road as a starting point, we will reconsider how this major urban artery; surrounded with shops, housing and institutions of all kinds; could be improved to make it more than an inner city ring-road.

Students began by making movies of the site, then went on to work in groups, researching the history and conditions of the road, and joining forces to produce a big drawing of the road itself. Working in groups, they are now developing a series of speculative masterplans for the road, and then will each select an aspect to design in detail. |
